The Department of Physics, established in the year 2019, offers a two-year Postgraduate Programme, M.Sc. Physics, with a sanctioned strength of 50 students. The department has a strong experimental focus on thin films fabrication, solar water distillation, nanomaterial synthesis, and characterization for various applications.
amme Description Postgraduate study in Physics prepares students for leadership roles in research, development, and the ambition to pursue high-level teaching methodologies, and advanced areas of experimental and theoretical physics that require skillful and imaginative solutions. During the coursework, learners are exposed to the recent trends in physics such as nanomaterials, Electromagnetic Theory, Thin Films, Crystal Growth Techniques, Ultrasonic Compressibility, Photovoltaic Cell Characteristics, LASER, Fiber Optics, Analog & Digital Electronics, Microprocessors, Microcontrollers, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The M.Sc. Physics programme offers both national and international career opportunities. Upon completion of the course, students can secure high-profile positions in areas such as IT consultant, Test Engineer, Field Engineer, Optical Engineer, Nanotechnologist, Geophysicist, Meteorologist, and Research Assistant / Associate across world-leading research institutions, etc.
To develop a strong foundational understanding of the core domains of physics, such as Quantum Mechanics, Classical Mechanics, Statistical Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electricity, Magnetism, Optics, and Special Relativity. The emphasis is on conceptual clarity rather than memorization of specific facts, allowing these principles to be flexibly applied to explain and predict physical phenomena. Learners gain the ability to critically analyze both familiar and unfamiliar physical problems using qualitative insight and quantitative reasoning. This includes recognizing the relevant physical laws, equations, and fundamental constants required to model, interpret, and solve fundamental physics problems.
Objectives :✓ Apply fundamental and advanced knowledge of physics to design and develop scientific solutions, with a focus on research in physics and materials characterization.
✓ Demonstrate professional competence in materials characterization and laser technology while upholding high ethical standards, effective communication, critical thinking, and lifelong learning skills.
✓ Acquire a strong academic foundation and leadership qualities to address challenges in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research and professional environments.
✓ Adapt to, assimilate, and develop innovative and emerging technologies in physical sciences and related fields through continuous learning.
✓ Practice ethical values and contribute responsibly in multidisciplinary settings, advancing physics through scientific competence, innovation, and critical analysis.
Hindusthan College of Arts and Science in the department of Physics provided me with a great balance of academics and extracurricular activities. The great college life I experienced here was profoundly aided by the excellent and friendly staff. The time I have spent in this college is paving the way towards fruitful and enriching career in research.
