About the Department

The Department of Biotechnology, established in 2003, offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Diploma, and Ph.D. programmes with a strong focus on academic excellence, research innovation, and industry relevance. The department was recognized under the DBT Star College Scheme for strengthening undergraduate education and backed by a team of experienced and highly qualified faculty engaged in teaching, research, and innovation across diverse areas of biotechnology. The curriculum is designed in alignment with national biotechnology priorities, with a strong emphasis on hands-on laboratory training, experiential learning, and research-oriented academic practices. Students benefit from industry integration through internships, expert lectures, industrial visits, and industry-linked projects. The department maintains active academic and research collaborations with reputed national and international institutions. The department also runs the Biowarriors Association, fostering scientific engagement and leadership, and an ECO Club, promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices. The department promotes Earn-While-Learn initiatives such as Mushroom Technology, Vermicomposting, and Horticulture, enabling students to develop entrepreneurial skills, sustainable practices, and gain income-generation experience. .

To produce Biotechnology Professionals with the knowledge to excel in Scientific and Industrial Research career and to develop Entrepreneurship Skills.

Mission


To develop the Curriculum with Program Specific Outcomes that produce sound knowledge in different traits of Biotechnology which include Nanotechnology, Agriculture Biotechnology, Forensic Science and Biosafety.
To impart the Scientific Knowledge to the student community by conducting Interaction Sessions with Eminent Scientists and Industrialists through Department Association and Clubs.
To produce Biotechnology Personnel with Critical Thinking Capability and promote Multidisciplinary Research.
To develop creativity and innovation in the young minds and make them skillful to deal with social and ethical claims.

Programme Description

The Department of Biotechnology is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories supporting teaching and research in diverse domains such as Molecular Biology, Microbial Biotechnology, Animal Cell Culture, Plant Tissue Culture, Immunology, Bioprocessing, Environmental Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, and Nanobiotechnology. Major facilities include advanced instrumentation for PCR, Nanodrop, ELISA, UV–Visible spectrophotometry, Gel Documentation, Centrifugation, Microscopy, Bioprocessing, Freeze-dryer, Fermenter, Cold storage, and Analytical studies, providing students with hands-on exposure to modern biotechnological techniques essential for academic research and industry applications.
