The Department of Microbiology (PG), established in 2005, is actively engaged in teaching, research, and skill development. The department’s research thrust areas include Molecular Biology, Probiotics, Medical Microbiology, Bioactive Phytochemicals, and Pharmaceuticals. It is well equipped with both basic and advanced laboratory facilities, enabling effective academic instruction and high-quality research output. The department has successfully completed a major research project funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST). In addition, it received financial and academic support from the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST) under the Popularization of Science Activities scheme. To enhance employability and career readiness, the department has established tie-ups with diagnostic laboratories for student placements and maintains strong linkages with research laboratories for internships and career advancement. Furthermore, students are provided with value-added certification programs, including Medical Coding and FoSTaC–FSSAI, strengthening their professional competencies and industry exposure.

The M.Sc., Microbiology programme integrates advanced core concepts such as Medical Bacteriology, Infectious Virology, Genetic Engineering, Nanotechnology, Forensic Microbiology and Bioinformatics. To enhance employability in both public and private sectors, final-year students undertake an industrial or institutional project, providing practical exposure and application-oriented learning that strengthens their knowledge and professional competence.

I am Agalya, Completed M.Sc., Microbiology from HICAS, during the academic year 2007-2009. It was my immense fortune and luck to be the part of this organization where have grown. The entire faculty in Microbiology department leaves no stone unturned to shape my future. The infrastructure of Microbiology lab is one of the finest which stands out the most. The best thing about the department is the cross-culture interaction between students & faculty. With an attitude of being ever ready to help, and not only delivering classroom teachings, but they are also the pillars of the learning gained from this esteemed college and this is a treasure for life. I have established my leadership, time management and team skills and have also been able to advance these skills to the whole new augment level. My Two years has been a wonderful experience of learning with prolific exposure to outside. Huge respect, love and devotion for entire faculty members and department. It was full of learning and grooming oneself. It gave me an opportunity to meet different kind of people and learned many things. Beautiful campus, Massive Library, Hostel which gives a positive vibe to stick with. I truly believe that HICAS stands strong and firm with their motto "Where Education is Beyond Academics".
