The Department of Social Work, established in 2004, is committed to developing professionally competent social work practitioners with strong ethical values, leadership abilities, and a global outlook. The Department emphasizes a practice-oriented curriculum that fosters personal growth, social responsibility, and the capacity to effect meaningful change at individual, community, and societal levels. The curriculum is further enriched through value-added and online courses, along with structured placement training, enabling students to enhance their professional skills and employability.

Programme Description

The programme is systematically structured to develop professionally competent and self-assured social work practitioners, with a strong emphasis on ethical practice, professional values, and sustainable development. Since its inception, the Department has been committed to academic excellence, quality teaching, and research-oriented learning, while fostering social awareness and responsibility among students.

At the postgraduate level, the programme offers specializations in Human Resource Management, Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, Community Development and Geriatric care. In addition to rigorous theoretical instruction, the curriculum integrates fieldwork training as a core component, providing students with supervised practical exposure and experiential learning opportunities across Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations.

  • Block Placements and Placement Support : Intensive block placements and strong placement assistance ensure students transition smoothly into careers in social work, development sectors, and allied professions.
  • Industry–Academia HR Interaction Programme : The Department of Social Work, in collaboration with the National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), organizes HR meets on campus twice a month. HR professionals across Coimbatore and Social Work (HR) students actively participate, gaining valuable professional exposure.
  • Village Adoption Programme : The Department of Social Work, in collaboration with the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), Government of Tamil Nadu has adopted three panchayats in S.S. Kulam, Coimbatore.
  • Student Research Initiatives : The Department engages students in faculty-guided research projects conducted in industries, hospitals, and at the community level.
