To produce quality graduates for the research by imparting advanced concepts and techniques.
To make our graduates employable and preferable by industry through exponential research and innovative practices.

Programme Description

The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Physics is an undergraduate degree designed to build a solid understanding of core physical principles and their practical applications. The curriculum encompasses both classical and contemporary areas of physics such as properties of matter and sound, mechanics, optics, electricity and magnetism, heat and thermodynamics, atomic physics and spectroscopy, quantum mechanics, solid-state physics, electronics, computational techniques, artificial intelligence, and Python programming. The program focuses on strengthening conceptual understanding along with developing experimental proficiency and problem-solving skills through systematic laboratory experiments and project-based learning. Students gain experience in scientific investigation, data evaluation, and the use of contemporary tools and techniques relevant to physics and materials science. Graduates of the program are well prepared for postgraduate studies, research, academic careers, and professional roles in science, technology, engineering, education, and related fields, while cultivating logical reasoning, innovation, and continuous learning.

The B.Sc. Physics programme offers both national and international career opportunities. Upon completion of the course, students can secure high-profile positions in areas such as IT consultant, clinical scientist, test engineer, field engineer, astronomer, optical engineer, nanotechnologist, geophysicist, meteorologist, and research assistant across world-leading research institutions, etc.

Best Practices of the Department

  • ➤ Creating opportunities to undergo training in esteemed research institutions like IITs, IISERs, NITs, IIA and TIFR etc.
  • ➤ Training the students towards the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) and the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).
  • ➤ Creating technical and industry readiness among the students to acquire positions in multinational companies such as ZOHO, Accenture, TCS, CTS, and Wipro, etc
  • ➤ Providing mentoring support to learn online courses in NPTEL, Coursera, IIT Bombay Spoken Tutorial and other online learning platforms. t
  • ➤ Arranging application oriented industrial visits to the Solar Observatory Centre, Kodaikanal, Radio Astronomy Centre, Ooty and Regional Science Centre, Coimbatore etc.
  • ➤ Guiding students to tap into the project funds from the Tamilnadu State Council for Science and Technology (TNSCST) for Final Year Project Works.
